Are you embarrassed by those ugly black fillings in your mouth? Do they show when you laugh? You can now have your teeth looking back to pearly white as you wish. Replacing your black old fillings is super easy at Ewan Bramley Dental Care!

Silver-mercury Amalgam fillings have been in dentistry for over 150 years, they have been heavily used up until recent years as they were known to be strong, long lasting and cost effective. However the days of silver fillings are over.

Silver fillings required the removal of tooth beyond the decay in order to allow it to lock mechanically into the tooth. The need for additional removal of tooth structure to retain silver-mercury amalgam may weaken teeth and leave them more prone to fracture.

If you need a filling these days there is new material which is just as strong and tooth coloured, so no more unsightly silver fillings in your mouth!

However, if you didn’t get the pleasure of having white fillings and want to replace your silver fillings, there are a couple of treatment options available that can brighten your teeth comfortably and without costing a fortune.

White Filling
We are able to simply remove your silver filling and replace with the new white coloured material, the composite resin bonds to your tooth and creates a strong hold that lasts just as long as silver amalgam.

Inlays or Onlays
Inlays and are made in our lab using the latest materials and technology. They are basically composite or porcelain ‘covers’ that cover the filling or the filling and part of your tooth.

Both composite and porcelain restorations offer you advantages over previous procedures. These materials are actually bonded to your tooth structure. This bonding eliminates the need for extensive tooth removal and allows us to conserve as much natural tooth structure as possible. This bond also strengthens your tooth. And, of course, they hide the silver filling and look like natural teeth!

Crowns
If the filling is large and can’t be covered by an inlay or onlay, then a dental crown may be recommended. We will remove your filling and build the tooth back up with a dental crown, the dental crown is made in our lab and can be shade matched to your current teeth.

Crowns are a more durable option than inlays or onlays and also a great option if you have more than one filling in the same tooth.

Veneers
Veneers are similar to dental crowns, they rebuild your tooth to give you a beautiful new smile. There is a bit more to the tooth preparation as we do need to file down your tooth so that we can fit the veneer. Don’t worry this process may sound awful but it doesn’t hurt as the treatment is minimally-invasive.

If you have silver fillings, it is possible to replace them, but you don’t need to if you don’t want to. There’s no need to panic about the safety of your fillings, or assume that you have no choice but to pay for a new white filling. If your fillings are still in good condition, they can stay in place. If your fillings are worn, or they’ve been there for many years, and you’d prefer to have white fillings, it may make sense to have your old fillings replaced.
