We would like to offer you some general guidance on the do’s and don’ts pre and post-injection procedure.

As Harriet is an Independent Prescribing Nurse she will require a full disclosure of your medical history, medications and allergies.

Although all treatments here at Ewan Bramley Skin Clinic are non surgical in nature, all treatments require us to take a full medical history as we administer prescription drugs like botox and administer products like dermal fillers and prescription peels.

24 hours before any injectable treatment we ask you to avoid alcohol as it can increase your bruise risk.

Things to avoid or consider

For the remainder of the day after treatment we suggest you avoid exercise, hot baths, saunas, sunbeds.  Basically anything that increases blood flow to your face we advise you avoid.

Avoid any laser therapy, microneedling or skin peels for 2 weeks post procedure.

Alcohol should also be avoided for 4 hours post treatment

Avoid blood-thinning over the counter preparations like aspirin for a week before treatment.  However if it is prescribed please continue to take your aspirin.

Be mindful that non steroid anti inflammatories can increase bruising also, so ibuprofen, diclofenac and naproxen should be avoided also for 2-3 days before injections.

If you take anti coagulation medications like Warfarin, Apixiban, rivaroxiban, dabigatran and edoxiban, please inform the practice.  These drugs are normally given if you have atrial fibrillation (irregular heart rate) to prevent strokes.  These medications should not be stopped. You may potentially still be able to go ahead with treatment however there is a significant increased risk of bruising.

If you take any immunosuppressant medications like sulphasalazine, methotrexate, gold injections, let us know.  These drugs lower your body’s immune system therefore you may have an increased risk of infection.  These drugs are used in conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, crohn’s disease, psoriasis and multiple sclerosis.

If you suffer with any hypertrophic scarring let us know as any injections may trigger excessive scar tissue production.

If you have a history of a Bell’s Palsy (facial weakness – usually one side) you probably should be very careful about having botox injections as any previous facial muscle weakness may represent if the muscle is over relaxed.  Dermal fillers would be fine.

Also if you have an underlying neurological condition please let us know, it is usually advisable to check out with your consultant at the hospital before going ahead.  MS patients have gone ahead with botox after an ok from the hospital. However if you have Lambert Eaton syndrome or Myathesthesia Gravis you definitely should not have botox.

Any aesthetic treatments while pregnant is a no go.  Also, you must have finished breastfeeding before going ahead with botox or dermal fillers.

So if you have managed to say no to most or all of that you should be fine and safe to proceed…!!  🙂

With regard to specific treatments more detailed aftercare will be discussed at any appointment.
