Please follow the suggestions in this guide to ensure successful treatment after care and to properly care for your removable retainers.
Wearing your removable retainers
You may have to wear your retainers for longer after your brace de-bond appointment, please wear your removable retainers as advised by your dentist. You should wear your retainers during the night while you are asleep, this is to ensure your teeth stay in position.
You should not experience any serious discomfort while wearing your retainers but you may feel slight discomfort if you have forgotten to wear them for a few days.
If you do forget to wear your retainer for a few days, you can continue to wear your retainer. If you forget to wear your retainer for a long time and it no longer fits your teeth, please contact us immediately so we can examine the position of your teeth.
Avoid the following:
- Never expose your retainers to heat, this will distort the appliance and it will not fit correctly
- Never boil to clean or sterilise the retainer
- Never leave the appliance in your car in the summertime
- If the appliance causes you discomfort of any sort contact your dentist, do not try to modify or “repair” the appliance by yourself
Cleaning your Retainers
It is important to keep the appliance clean so it remains clear and odour free. The best way to clean the appliance is to use a gentle cleaning solution such as Retainer Brite.
You may also use a retainer or denture cleaner found at your local supermarket or chemist (follow product instructions) and a soft toothbrush.
Important Tips
- Store your retainers in the provided case when it is not in your mouth
- Clean the retainer daily using a safe cleaner and method
- Wear the retainer every night as per your dentists Instructions
- Always use your fingers to place the appliance in your mouth
- Never use your teeth to “bite” the appliance into place. Using your teeth will lead to distortion or breakage of your retainer
