Ewan Bramley Dental Care Reports…

How many teeth have you lost? According to a recent study, the number of teeth we lose may well be a good indicator of how long we’ll live.

The Periodontology report has revealed that our quality of life and our life expectancy can be reflected in the number of teeth we’re missing. If you’re 74 and above and have a full set of gnashers, for example, it has been reported that you’re far more likely to reach the golden milestone of 100 years and receive your telegram from the queen. Wouldn’t that be nice?

According to the study, “clear evidence” highlights that stress is linked very closely to tooth loss and can have a major impact on a person’s lifespan.

This includes a person’s educational, economic, social and emotional experiences along with certain health issues such as lifestyle choices, nutritional intake, genetic conditions and chronic disease.

It seems that there is a direct relationship between our quality of life and our oral health, and Ewan Bramley Dental Care, a leading dentist in Newcastle, thinks it’s vital that we pay very close attention to our mouths, teeth and gums and visit the dentist regularly so that they can pick up any problems or signs of disease which could result in tooth loss.

Reacting to the study, Dr Ewan Bramley, said: “There are a lot of reasons why people lose teeth. It can be down to things like smoking or a certain trauma, or can be as simple as a bad oral health routine. Tooth loss is also linked to gum disease, which is often brought on by diabetes and heart disease.

“Research like this also shows that tooth loss can signify a lot of stress in a person’s life or that they’re making poor lifestyle choices.

“Perhaps most importantly, however, it demonstrates that diseases such as gum disease, often linked to tooth loss, can reduce our life cycle.

“We must, therefore, take our oral health very seriously if we want to live a long and disease free life. Taking good care of our mouths and making regular trips to the dentist is just one way we can make this happen.”

Here are three simple Ewan Bramley Dental Care rules to keep our mouths in check…

– Make sure you brush your pearly whites at least once through the day and once again before you go to bed using fluoride toothpaste.

– Reduce the amount of high sugar drinks and foods you currently consume.

– Make sure you make the trip to your dentist as often as they advise for a proper and thorough check up.

Remember people, tooth loss on its own comes with many issues. If you take your teeth seriously, you’ll avoid a whole host of uncomfortable and potentially life-threatening problems further down the line.
