Composite resin veneers are becoming more and more popular here at Ewan Bramley Dental Care.
Composite veneers can give you the result of porcelain veneers but with less damage to the teeth. They are the closest conservative cosmetic alternative to veneers.
Here’s how it works. A resin material is placed on to the tooth surface with minimal or no preparation needed.
The composite is then matched to your natural tooth colour and is used to build up, shape or add width or length to the teeth. Gaps can also be closed using this method.
Composite veneers are made directly on to the tooth rather than being sent to a lab like the porcelain alternatives. They can therefore be applied in one visit, and require little or no preparation or drilling to the teeth. This obviously means that they are less destructive and more preservative than conventional veneers that require the tooth to be cut down before placement. They are also much less expensive than porcelain veneers (i.e. £200 per tooth as opposed to £600!)
You do have to bear in mind that they have a shorter lifespan than porcelain veneers (up to 10 years) and they require maintenance as they can chip (porcelain veneers are much more durable in that they last 12-25 years and rarely require maintenance).
However, if they do chip or come away, because it is your natural tooth underneath it will be practically impossible to detect by anyone but you!
We can achieve just as amazing results with composite veneers as we can with porcelain, and here at Ewan Bramley Dental Care we have a deep understanding and knowledge of the procedure as we have completed many cases with excellent results.
So just to recap – benefits of composite veneers are:
• Minimal or no preparation needed (so not damaging to teeth)
• Can be done on the day (no need for temporary veneers)
• Much less expensive than porcelain veneers
